Undercoat and Clearcoat Developments are moving forward. The Automobile and Truck topcoats are absolutely incredible not only in application processes but in overall performance and they are starting to get any better. With the new transluent colors, primers and sealers, titnted primers, ceramic coatings to match in just a few coats it is crusical to have absolute perfection in the process. Now how do you know if you are working on a car which did not have optimum criteria during the process of laser painting, coating or clear coats priming or seal coating? You don't. Sure a good automotive detailer/artist can tell and they do make clear coat depth finders. Some of the issues are more critical with refinishers who need to maximize speed when refinishing a damaged area. Manufacturers understand this and are using super-productive clear coat options. Several Companies have worked with the refinishers on various products. BASF, DuPont, ICI AutoColor, Martin Seymour, PPG, Shrwin-Williams and Spies hecker all have produced after market clearcoats worthy of mention. The question is as a detailer in the car care indsutry doing auto detailing or even color sanding, how can you be sure what is on the car, what combinations were compiled and exactly which parts of the car were repaired by who and with what? a 2K Acryl system preforms differently with a high speed buffer and a long wool pad than will a Ultra 7000 Clearcoat by Sherwin-Williams used for cut-in, spot and panel, overall and high-production clears that utilize high-solid fast acting resins. Also realize as you are to use a 2500-1500 grit colorsand on such clearcoats you run risks. What many auto detailers fail to realize is the difference between various types of clear coats. As I listen to the quote experts as I travel the country, I hear "clearcoat" used as such a generic term. The factory clearcoats, refinishers clearcoats are so varied by manufacturer of paint and even year models between the auto manufacturers that an y discussion on the matter of how a clear coat is to be treated is similar to what gene therapy you might do on your mother if you had unlimited resources. http://www.DetailGuys.com Want answers, need questions.
